A shutout, some shoving, Chris Getz admits something he shouldn't have, Kumar Rocker will make history, a bad Clemente Award nominee, Pulp, pie fights, Grohl, and Nirvana

Good morning!

At the outset I’ll say that I did not watch the presidential debate last night because (a) I already know who I’m voting for; and (b) I value my mental health. I did check in on social media during the final half hour or so, however, and was able to learn about a number of Trump’s numerous self-inflicted wounds, some of his unhinged rambling, and his repeating of a blood libel against Haitian immigrants, so I know the night went poorly for him, so I slept pretty damn well last night.

Either way, I’m not gonna talk about the debate any more today because, honestly, there’s no shortage of that elsewhere. I am going to talk about the big boy shutout in Detroit last night, some pushing and shoving in Philly — at the baseball game, not during the debate — Chris Getz said something he probably should not have said, the A’s are not promising to play postseason games in Sacramento, Kumar Rocker’s callup is making some history, and the Rays’ nominee for the Clemente Award is regrettable, to say the least.

In Other Stuff, I have one more Pulp thing for now, we talk about the history of pie fights, Dave Grohl puts the dad in dad rock, and I close with a far less-problematic Nirvana-related item.
